3/12/2013 Messier Observations

M41:

03/12/13 9:10 PM EDT
Fair sky, but also a fair amount of light pollution. Located by using the star Sirius, it’s a bit below it. Most useful eyepiece was 13mm. Fairly spread out grouping of stars.

M42 (Orion Nebula):

03/12/13 9:20 PM EDT
Fairly bad light pollution. Could still make out a lot of light coming from it. All white light, no colors visible. Most useful magnification was 13mm. It fit perfectly in FOV.

M45 (Pleiades):

03/12/13 9:36 PM EDT
Fairly bad light pollution, viewed near horizon while setting. Found by naked eye. I sometimes call it the miniature dipper, because that’s what it looks like to me. Most useful eyepiece was 25mm that came with the Celestron 130 SLT. Fit perfectly in FOV.
