It’s like something you’d see in a sci-fi film! NASA’s Mars Curiosity rover looked up to the sky and captured 41 images of Mars’ two moons, Phobos and Deimos, eclipsing each other. The images were pieced together to create a time-lapse video. The video shows the larger moon, Phobos, occulting the smaller moon, Deimos. The actual time elapsed during the images is 55 seconds.
Scientists believe the two moons are large asteroids that were captured by Mars, and from what they observe Phobos seems to be inching closer to Mars while Deimos seems to be moving farther out in its orbit.
